IIAS President Outlines Five Commitments for EGPA@60

Diogo Pereira,

During the IIAS Presidential Address during the Opening Ceremony of EGPA 2025 Conference, the IIAS President outlined the 5 commitments for vision EGPA@60.

1. Autonomy and Knowledge Dissemination

EGPA will strengthen its self-determination scientifically, administratively, and financially. Three concrete actions are already underway: the creation of a new Executive Secretary position dedicated to EGPA, the financial delegation with specific resource commitments to Permanent Study Groups and research support, and reorganization of the Secretariat as a service unit for all entities.

2. Accessibility and Inclusion

We will work to lower conference participation costs, making our events more accessible and inclusive. This includes rethinking how our events are conducted — with reforms to enhance resource sharing, broaden participation, and ensure that all members can take part.

3. Outreach and Connection with Society

EGPA will increase its outreach and societal relevance by strengthening dialogue with European and international institutions, and by further consolidating its established and renowned initiatives, such as the Trans-European Dialogue (TAD), the Transatlantic Dialogue (TED), and the dialogue with MENAPAR.

4. Renewal of Governance

The newly elected Steering Committee will bring in sweeping reforms to strengthen the EGPA Statutes and to redefine its relations with the IIAS Statutes, ensuring greater autonomy, clarity, and alignment with our shared mission.

5. Internationalization with a European Core

EGPA is European in its roots, but global in its outlook. EGPA will continue to show how European traditions of public administration can inspire and contribute to the global debate.

Our Commitment

This EGPA@60 Manifesto is not a list of promises. It is a vision for the future of EGPA: a stronger, more autonomous, more inclusive, more democratic, and more internationally relevant community.

The future of EGPA will be built on its proud history, and also on its courage to innovate. Together, we will ensure that EGPA remains the living voice of European Public Administration — rooted in Europe, connected to society, and reaching out to the world.
